In the midst of the tragedy there are many tears, but I am grateful that some of my tears in the midst of my own tragedy are due to the kindness of the owners of Heflebower.
Our daughter was born previable at 18 weeks. She was so small but she was every bit our child and the loss was shocking and heartbreaking. Our family was so grateful to find Mike during this time. He was patient and helpful while we were in the hospital making our decision as to how to care for her body. He picked up our daughter personally and continued to be kind, responsive and communicative with us the entire time she was in his care. Mike is a man of solid integrity and his work is important and meaningful, we are very thankful for him.
I can't thank Mike enough for everything he did for me and my family during this hard time. He is a Profesional and very caring man. I highly recommend him to anyone that may need his services. My heart goes out to you if you're checking reviews because you have a need and don't know where to turn. Making the call to learn how to move forward with the loss of a tiny little granddaughter, who arrived much too early, was one of the most difficult ever. Mike was very patient as I struggled to get the words out. He also shared a personal story that helped us feel he understood what these parents were going through. Working with Mike we were able to make the needed immediate arrangements from the hospital room. The follow-up was also handled well. I hope to never need to make this type of call again. Yet if it were to be, the call would be to Mike.
Because of Mike, I know there are for-profit companies in this industry that are doing well by doing good. And I sincerely hope this review will lead Mike, Dennis and the rest of the Heflebower team to flourish.
I'm not sure I ever thought I'd be writing a review for this type of business. I suppose even an elementary level of goodness and dignity can be seen as an integral part of this type of work. But that's precisely what made me write this review. I hesitate to describe the situation that led me to contact Mike Heflebower, but I only did so after finding that the motivations of profit of the other mortuaries of the city merely created a façade of care and dignity. In the midst of a tragedy it was impossible to escape the feeling that other departments of the city were eager to take advantage of my reduced processing capacity and knew that their competitors would not budge, either. Eventually, they knew I would break down. But the hospital administrators knew that Mike was the person to call. I spoke to them (Rose Medical Center - also incredible people and the subject of my next review) and they did not hesitate to refer me to Mike because they knew I had endured enough hardship. Without Mike, I would have had to resort to another service, but I would have lost confidence in the goodness of mankind.
After delivering our stillborn baby we had to make some tough decisions. Mike was such a blessing to work with. He was so thoughtful and gracious. We feel so lucky to have found him.
